T-Pain Says Moment Usher Told Him He ‘F*cked Up Music’ Kick-Started A 4-Year Long Depression

T-Pain depress user music

2013 was a really good year for T-Pain, at least that’s what the whole world thought but to the singer, it was the start of a dark phase in his life that lasted for four years. In a new clip from the forthcoming Netflix series, This Is Pop, a series designed to explore untold stories from some of the biggest moments in pop music history.

T-Pain revealed that he fell into a depression that lasted for four years after singer Usher told him he ‘F*cked Up Music’ for using autotune, blaming him for the spread.

“Usher was my friend,” T-Pain said. “I really respect Usher. And he said, ‘I’m gonna tell you something, man. You kinda fucked up music.’”

The singer said he thought Usher was just joking or trying to pull his legs “And then he was like, ‘Yeah man you really f‑‑‑ed up music for real singers,'” he recalls. “I was like, ‘What did I do? I came out and I used Auto-Tune.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, you f‑‑‑ed it up.’ I’m like, ‘But I used it, I didn’t tell everybody else to start using it.'”

He continues, “That is the very moment, and I don’t even think I realized this for a long time, but that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
