Virgin EMI has dropped off a previously unheard Freddie Mercury performance entitled “Time Waits For No One.” A stripped back version of his 1986 track “Time,” the three-and-a-half-minute cut features Mercury at his most compelling, accompanied by nothing else but a piano to highlight that glorious voice that turned him into one of music’s most notable legends.
Songwriter, producer and long-time friend of Mercury’s Dave Clark has been working on reviving the song for two years. Clark, along with original keyboardist Mike Moran, peeled the 96 track version down to just the Queen frontman’s vocals.
The producer also worked on an accompanying video for the musical gem, and rather than piecing old performances together, he dug through an archived video shoot for the song dating back to 1986. As he came across a live video of what he called Mercury’s “magic performance…he tasted every word,” he knew the visual masterpiece was meant for the song.
