Today, we sit with the man and future rapper of the year behind “PayDay” as he gives us an insight to what been Sling XO is all about and how he evolved from being the slingshot that fell Goliath.
Your last song was “payday”, tell us a little bit about that?
I made payday solely focused on financial stability and spreading positive vibes. my favorite part of the song is where I pray. The song is not just a cry out for money but protection and guidance from GOD.
Tell us what’s growing in (where you’re from) like and how has it impacted your music?
I’m from South Africa, Gauteng.
Born in Kempton Park and raised in Tembisa.
My love for music started on the road.
Going on family trips. My dad used to play A lot of 80s and 90s music.
I started writing poems and short stories when I was 12 then when I turned 16 I used my writing skills as therapy, being an introvert talking about certain things was hard so music was there for me and I never looked back
Where does the name SLING XO come from and how long have you gone by that?
How the name Sling XO came about
Well at first I was a slingshot.
Slingshot being the weapon David used against Goliath
David being me
Slingshot being the music
Goliath is the challenge of life
Then I felt like the name wasn’t authentic enough so I add XO
X – MIND
I – HEART
Do you have any new project in the works and when should we be expecting that?
I’m working on a project titled MIND VS HEART which explains the XO in my name.
Who and who do you wish to collaborate with in the nearest future?
My dream collaborations are
THE WEEKND, KANYE WEST, NASTY C, DRAKE, RIHANNA AND MANY MORE
I look up to KANYE WEST.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In the next 5years, I see myself as a voice of my neighborhood and the youth. I don’t want to disclose more info but yeah.
