Saweetie is starting the year on a very high note after a successful campaign last year with the release of hit singles such as “Tap In” and “Back to the Streets” with Jhené Aiko. The rapper is now going into television and will be making her acting debut on the upcoming midseason premiere of “grown-ish.”
On the Yara Shahidi focused hit series, Saweetie will be playing the character, Indigo, a protégé to Joey Bada$$’s bossy and client to Zoey.
The rapper recently discussed her transition into television on EW. She revealed that she was nervous about the role but pulled through, thanks to Yara’s encouragement.
“I would ask her for advice, and she was so easy to work with, so it was an honor and a pleasure to work with her. I know she’s gonna continue to do big and great things, even if I would mess up sometimes, she was just so helpful. It’s always nice to work with someone who wants you to do as well as them. What I will say is that she’s such a team player. She was like hyping me up and gave me the motivation, so it was fun to work with her.”
