Rapper DMX has sadly passed away on Friday, April 9th, after suffering from a drug overdose that triggered a heart attack on April 3, at around 11 PM in his home which left him in a vegetative state and on life support.
They were rumors of his passing on Thursday, his manager Steve Rifkind had to release a statement saying that he was still alive, asking fans to keep praying. His family has now released an official statement, confirming his death.
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” read the statement. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”
“We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
The legendary rapper has battled with substance abuse over the years and has had a few health scares in the past. He’s also been to rehab a few times. Back in October, 2019, he canceled multiple concerts to go to rehab, calling it “ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first.” That came following a 12-month sentence for tax evasion.
Our condolence to the family.
