Singer R. Kelly has been awaiting trial for some time now and it finally looks like the federal trial is going to happen. He faces trial for racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, kidnapping, forced labor and enticement.
Billboard reports that the much-awaited trial is scheduled to begin August 9 in a Brooklyn courtroom. Despite the tension, the singer’s lawyer says Kelly is pleased that the trial date has finally been set and that he is confident about his case.
Kelly previously appeared along with his legal team telephonically for a status hearing on April 15. Judge Ann M. Donnelly firmly set his trial date and both parties were happy and ready to proceed with the new date. The singer had also previously pleaded with a Judge for his release using Covid – 19 pandemic as a reason but all pleas were denied repeatedly.
He will be moved from the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, where he has been in custody since July 2019, to a similar facility in Brooklyn, New York.
