Over a year after Pop Smoke’s death, more news has surfaced regarding the shooting incident that took place on February 19, 2019, at his Hollywood home in Los Angeles.
Earlier reports stated that the rapper was attacked by two unknown gunmen in hoodies and masks. A video of firefighters trying to resuscitate the rapper earlier appeared only.
On July 9, 2020, the LAPD confirmed that 5 persons, Three (3) adults and two (2) juvenile had been arrested in connection to the rapper’s death after serving multiple search warrants around Los Angeles.
New reports reaching us say that Pop Smoke was shot 3 times and killed by a 15-year old teen who was in the company of 3 other individuals after a confrontation over his jewelry at his Airbnb rental in the Hollywood Hills and wanted to steal his diamond-studded Rolex, according to a testification by a detective.
The 15-year-old teen allegedly confessed to shooting the rapper during a recorded interview with a cellmate at a juvenile detention center, according to the testimony of LAPD Det. Carlos Camacho at a preliminary hearing for a different suspect, Corey Walker, 20. He is the sole adult defendant in the case.
“He admitted that he shot the victim three times with a Baretta 9 (mm.),” LAPD Det. The 15-year-old confessed last year, May, and is now facing murder and robbery charges.
The Detective testified that the confession made by the 15-year-old narrates that Pop Smoke was in the shower naked when the group invaded that house and demanded that he gives them his jewelry. The Brooklyn rapper was first compliant but later decided to fight back but was “pistol-whipped” before the 15-year-old suspect shot him in the chest, Camacho said, citing Walker’s account.
According to the detective, there was a woman present at the house when the shooting took place who gave an eyewitness account of what went down. The woman testified that:
“She heard a struggle coming from the shower area and heard Mr. Jackson screaming. Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom and then she heard a loud pop and [heard] Mr. Jackson fall to the ground,” the detective said.
Carrasco said, citing the woman’s testimony, that “two other individuals began to kick him (Pop Smoke).” Jackson’s mother, Audrey Jackson, who was at the hearing on Friday, was very upset at hearing this. “I didn’t know any of this. It’s all new. I just knew my boy was gone,” she said after the hearing ended Friday.
“Now it really feels like he’s not coming back,” she said, tears coming down in her eyes. “I don’t know what I thought being here would do. I thought something would happen that would help me feel differently. But to hear they kicked him when he was down. It’s so disrespectful and dishonorable. There was no honor in this. And the irony in this is that those same kids are the kids he said he made music for,” she added.
“There need to be consequences, sufficient consequences,” she said. “But as a people, we have work to do. Our children are killing each other. This just makes absolutely no sense to me.
law enforcement officials testified that all four defendants were members of the same street gang and learned of his whereabouts through social media.
Pop Smoke’s posthumous album ‘Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon’ was released back on July 4, 2020, the album which was executively produced by rapper 50 Cent featured guest appearances from Future, Quavo, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Roddy Ricch, 50 Cent, DaBaby and many others.
