We may have lost DMX but here is a long list of new music to remember him by. The late Ruff Ryder’s highly anticipated posthumous album ‘EXODUS 1:7’ has been released on streaming platforms.
X was working on a new album before his death, Darrin “Dee” Dean of Ruff Ryders revealed that the rapper had plans to share the album this summer but unfortunately he is not here to witness the project’s arrival.
“Sadly he’s not gonna be here, but the music…This album right here is special. Like you probably never heard any music as you heard on this one that we did right now. This is probably one of his great albums. One of the best. It’s a classic, for sure.”
‘EXODUS 1:7’ features a surprise list of guest artists including Usher, Bono, Jay-Z, Nas Griselda, Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo, Snoop Dogg, Mr. Porter, and The LOX. The entire album is produced by Swizz Beatz.
Somehow, people were expecting to see late rapper Pop Smoke featured on the album, Swizz explained why the song did not come to light.
“I didn’t want the album just to be artists from when X first came out. I wanted it—and he wanted it—to be energy from today, which is why Pop Smoke originally had this slot. I actually made the beat for Pop Smoke. Pop Smoke was like, ‘I want something that sounds like X.’”
“And then I think by mistake or whatever, the verses got out, and they were put on different songs, so we had to change it at the last minute. The song is called ‘Money Money Money’, so I felt like Moneybagg Yo was perfect for it, and I actually like him as an artist. The beat reminded me of ‘Stop Being Greedy’ a little bit when I was doing it. It put me in that old X vibe.”
DMX passed away Friday, April 10, after suffering a heart attack that resulted from an accidental overdose. Listen below.
