Stream Jamila Woods New “LEGACY! LEGACY!”
Jamila Woods has collaborated with the likes of Chance The Rapper, Macklemore and Kweku Collins and today she is her own woman as she delivers “LEGACY! LEGACY!” album.
The most impressive thing for me about these album is that 12 of the 13 tracks named after historical black figures, Woods creates written self-portraits for people who have inspired her—James Baldwin, Eartha Kitt, Sun Ra, Muddy Waters, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Miles Davis to name a few.
Channeling their ideologies, beliefs and self-confidence, the multifaceted creative narrates numerous racial and feminine perspectives of life in America She enlists the help of Nitty Scott on the empowering “SONIA,” theMIND and Jasminfire on “SUN RA,” along with fellow Chicago musicians Saba for “BASQUIAT” and Nico Segal on “BALDWIN.”
She recently had an interview with Pitchfork where she broke down every track into bits for a better understanding, as every track means a lot to her, listen to the songs below and let us know what you think by leaving a comment for us below.
