South Korean-American actor and producer Daniel Dae Kim has revealed that he tested positive for coronavirus which he believes, he contacted while filming “New Amsterdam” in New York.
He was set to play a trauma surgeon and be introduced in an episode that had the characters on the medical drama dealing with a flu pandemic according to Cnn.
“Hi everyone- yesterday I was diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Looks like I’ll be ok, but I wanted share my journey with you in the hopes that you find it informative or helpful. Hope you all stay safe, calm, and above all, healthy.” He captioned the 10 minute video he posted on Instagram.
Kim stated that he developed a scratchy throat while flying back to Hawaii from New York after filming was postponed due to coronavirus outbreak.
Once he reached Hawaii, he self quarantined and began showing other symptoms, like chest tightness, body aches and a fever. His doctor recommended he get tested for coronavirus and later discovered he is positive after testing at a drive-thru testing center in Honolulu.
Kim also addressed the xenophobic behavior that the pandemic has caused as many have blamed china for the pandemic.
“Yes, I’m Asian. And yes, I have coronavirus, but I did not get it in China. I got it in America — in New York City,” he said. “Despite what certain political leaders want to call it, I don’t consider the place where it’s from as important as the people who are sick and dying.”
